I have not read Victoria Michaels before…  I am pretty sure that I will again.  What a story!

In Concealed (Hidden #1) we meet Sydney Ross and her 6 year old daughter Faith.  They have located to the small rural town of Elton and have managed to make connections and a life for themselves after living an itinerant lifestyle.

Sydney and Faith’s lifestyle was dictated by events many years prior.  These events were traumatic and life changing, but once they settle in Elton, it seems that life is letting them slow down and stabilise a little.

Sydney is a sweet young girl (early 20’s) who makes choices based on her need to provide and protect her daughter.  Faith is a vibrant, smart and adorable little girl who grabs your heart in her fist and doesn’t let it go.  With some help from a dear but meddling friend, Sydney takes a chance to explore some mutual interest between herself and the town Sherriff, Wade Jenkins.  The tension between these two is palpable, so when they finally connect – it seems perfect…  but is it?  Can it really ever work?

Life takes a turn for the unexpected when there is a murder in the small town..  What follows is an unravelling of a life story that has you holding your breath, praying for good things, and feeling empathy for all involved.

Ms Michaels wrote a story that gripped me, clearly it has romance, but this is a thriller/suspense story first and foremost, and has you guessing to the end.  Although there are elements that are very cliché and appear to have been told before – at no point did this completely detract for this story.  I was engaged with the characters and cheering for the good guys and the Happy Ever After…  The writing style and tone were well executed.  There are a few editorial errors in the ARC and hopefully they have been caught before publish was hit!  I can also understand the path this story took based on the plot, however I think some more depth to the backstory (ie: How Sydney managed to carve a life out for them in the previous locations etc) would have added to the thriller element of this story – and let the adrenaline pump that bit harder when we reached the plot climax.

I am rating Concealed 4 hearts.  It was Really Good – if you like your Romance pure but tense… and you like your drama filled with suspense… you will enjoy this story!  Be careful though…  The prologue jumps out with a bang!
