Synopsis
Willow Emery is in the middle of chemotherapy when she literally runs into Asher Wellington on the sidewalk after treatment with a rather unfortunate outcome. She is alone in a new city and doesn’t need anyone in her life. If life has taught her anything it’s that you can’t rely on anyone.
Asher is a young widower, devastated by the tragic death of his wife Olivia three years earlier. He has given up the idea of ever finding the kind of love that he shared with his late wife. Will one fateful day bring two lost souls together? Will taking a chance lead them to a happily ever after or will the challenges they face keep them apart?
Iva's Review
Take a Chance by Annalisa Nicole is a very sweet romance about two people who are adjusting to the devastations life brings and find hope again in each others arms. It has a good story line and likeable characters.
Willow is halfway through her treatment for breast cancer when she runs into Asher Wellington and proceeds to vomit all over his shoes. Intrigued by the fleeing mortified redhead, Asher finds himself meeting her at her next chemotherapy appointment and driving her home despite the lingering grief he is still feeling for his late wife.
Annalisa Nicole has used a dual perspective for Take a Chance. The changes between narrations are clearly identified and occur regularly. There is no repetitive telling of the story, however I did find the dialogue too wordy and stiff at times.
The characters are amiable and well suited to each other. Willow appears to be a brave woman who takes life one step at a time. Asher is very much the perfect man, bringing flowers everytime they meet up, buying dinner or lunch, making sure she is okay and supporting her during her treatment.
It is a very much a fairy tale romance, with only very minor hitches on the path to the couples happily ever after conclusion. Sex scenes do occur, however the emotional connection between the characters seems to slip away at these points and it becomes a list of actions rather than a pleasing culmination of their love.
It is a fair story and a good book to read if you like Happily Ever Afters.
About the Author
I am an “Indie” adult contemporary romance author. I live in California with my husband and two teenage boys. I love being a stay at home mom and my husband and I enjoy wine tasting throughout our great state. We have a handful of pets, a dog named Lucy (who is in my books) and a guinea pig named Flufy (my son spelled her name that way) and a cat who adopted us many years ago and has never left. She is a spoiled outdoor cat with her own two story house and a heated bed.
I never liked reading as a kid, and I only started reading a lot of books in the past few years. My Kindle and I are inseparable now. A thought occurred to me in December of 2012 that maybe I could write a romance novel. So I went to work with the encouragement of my husband and my sister-in-law. It didn’t take long to figure out that I really enjoyed writing. I entered the book in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest in January of 2013. Needless to say my three hundred word pitch didn’t even make it through the first round. So now what do you do with a 50,000 word book that I wrote? Still being encouraged by my wonderful family I decided to self publish it. So here I am now a self published author. It has been a lot of hard work but I wouldn’t change a single thing.
If you have a goal in mind stick to it. It’s not always an easy road and there was a lot of self teaching and self doubt along the way, but I stuck with it. I have been blessed to have been put in contact with some amazing people along the way. I hope you enjoy my books as much as I enjoyed writing them.
