Kota & Iva's Author Advent Event - Day 15

About EJ Rycer

I live with my husband in the Merrimack Valley about forty-five minutes north of Boston, Massachusetts. I’ve known I wanted to be a writer since I was a little kid. One year I saved up all of my birthday money to buy a Smith Corona electric typewriter. My Grandfather gave me a bunch of old typing paper he had and encouraged me to write. I really think his encouragement stayed with me into adulthood and is what has helped push me to follow my dream of becoming an author. My husband, my three sisters, and a ton of other family members and friends have been super supportive of me and helped me find my confidence when I’ve had my moments of self-doubt.

My debut novel, The Marked File, was released on November 7th of this year. It features Boston Homicide Detectives Jess Reilly and Greg Fisk. I’m hoping this will be the first in a series of books centered on their case files. I’m currently working on book two of the series and hope to have that out in the first half of 2014. Also in the works is a short story called The Genesis File, which is focused on events in Jess’ life as a high school senior that made her realize she wanted to be a homicide detective. This short story will be part of an anthology of short stories featuring Reilly and Fisk. I’m hoping to have the anthology out by this time next year.

The Marked File

In the middle of the night a happy, successful young man walks off his roof and plummets three stories into the alley below.

At first glance, his tragic death appears to be a suicide but Boston’s top murder cop, Detective Jess Reilly, isn’t buying it. She knows, sometimes, a murder can look a lot like a suicide. When a second body shows up it’s just too much of a coincidence for Reilly and her partner, Detective Greg Fisk, to ignore. In a strange case where nothing is as it seems, Reilly and Fisk must scrutinize everything…including a witness who seems entirely too interested in the investigation.

When the forensics lab makes a startling revelation about this elusive killer’s method, Reilly and Fisk must race to find him before he marks his next victim for death.
