Sometimes in love, you choose wrong…

Eight years ago, Lennon lost his heart to Rain, and suddenly she’s back, all grown up and sexy as hell. At a sorority party, he convinces himself that outbidding every other guy for a body shot from Rain is for charity. But he knows better. He doesn’t want any guy, except him, tarnishing the memory of the little girl he proposed to in fifth grade.

Jinx loves Lennon and is past ready for him to make his move. With his sexual prowess, she worries why he hasn’t made any advances. She fears she is losing him, and the only way to keep him is to overcome her past and give him what he desires.

Rain knows Lennon is trouble. If she couldn’t say no to the gangly boy asking her to skateboard off some roof, how will she refuse Lennon’s seductive powers now that he is a man? Rain has many reasons to resist his charm. He has a girlfriend, he’s moving to LA with her, and Rain has no intention to march in the long parade of Lennon Tyler conquests.

Now, Lennon must choose. Someone has to lose, and that person could be him.

Iva's Reviews

Lennon's Jinx (Book 1)

You can't judge a man by his reputation...

Lennon's Jinx by Chris Myers is a contemporary romance suitable for mature young adults. It is a well written book that deals with some sensitive issues and is sure to provoke an emotional response from many readers.

17 year old Lennon Tyler has a reputation as a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy. The type of guy Jinx finds threatening and not in any good way. Jinx goes out of her way to avoid Lennon at all costs, but when she turns up to audition for a spot in his band she finds there may be more to Lennon than meets the eye.

Lennon has never asked a girl on a date, nor taken any girl back to his home. There is only room for one girl in his life and that is his sister Currie. Lennon has been the only one responsible enough to look after Currie since she was a baby, thanks to a crack addicted musician father and an alcoholic actress for a mother. Because of this, Lennon prefers a no strings attached sexual relationship, one not difficult to find when you are the son of celebrites and front your own band. So why all of a sudden does he care that Jinx Armstrong thinks he is a pig?

Lennon's Jinx is a smooth, easy to read book and is narrated by the two main characters.  Lennon is likeable as a male lead. At 17 he has enough of the cocky exuberance of youth but an emotional maturity that has come from looking after his sister. He has been scarred from his parents neglect and therefore keeps any relationships with girls as purely physical.

Jinx's secret burns within her soul and makes her give up the dream of a knight in shining armour coming to sweep her off her feet. Instead she focuses on remembering an old relationship with Zach, a boy she has been able to trust in the past. Jinx has the lack of confidence many 17 year old girls have, but enough substance and heart break that she is well received as a character.

Chris Myer has done an excellent job of giving the characters their strengths and weaknesses and keeping them consistent throughout the story. Dialogue fits in well and is appropriate to the age of the characters.
There are many "minor" characters in this book who play a big part in the story. All are as well developed as the main characters and their individual stories help make the book more enjoyable and emotional.

The backgrounds of both Jinx and Lennon causes their relationship to develop very slowly. After all, both of them need to learn to trust one another first and become friends second. I don't get the feeling that they are in love by the end of the book, but do feel that they have a strong connection.

Overall, Lennon's Jinx is a good book and highly suitable for the audience that Chris Myers has written it for.

Lennon's Rain (Book 2)

Lennon's Rain by Chris Myers is a contemporary romance that is easy to read and aimed at mature young adults. It contains descriptive sex, drugs and swear words.

Lennon's rain continues the story of now 18 year old Lennon and his relationship with his girlfriend Jinx. Jinx and Lennon have now been together for a few months and although they are comfortable with each other, Jinx is still not secure enough in their relationship to move beyond kisses and a little fondling. Lennon is patiently waiting for Jinx to make the first move not realising that she is beginning to think that he no longer desires her. The misunderstanding, as well as some tension between Jinx and Currie, has Jinx rethinking her commitment to move to LA with the band and when Lennon appears to have found some sexual release with another woman, Jinx quickly quits the band and refuses to hear Lennon's side of the story.

Lennon is hurt by Jinx's inability to believe in him, but isn't as upset as he would have been about their apparent breakup. He has bumped into Rain, the girl he proposed to 8 years earlier when they were both 10, and can't help the overwhelming feelings he still has for her. Rain remembers Lennon as a shy, innocent boy who looked after his sister because his parents didn't. Now Lennon is all hard male with a cocky swagger and a grin made to dissolve panties. She hasn't ever really gotten past the love she had for him all those years ago, but she knows that their lives are headed down different tracks.

Chris Myers has again used the main characters as narrators for the book, with Jinx narrating for one or two chapters only early in the book. The story is very much Lennon and Rains and we therefore get their thoughts and feelings for the rest of the book.

Lennon's relationship with Jinx has allowed him to take that first step into realising that he can have a relationship with a girl and it not affect his relationship with his sister. It makes his pursuit of Rain all the more sweeter and painful when she keeps denying him.

Jinx has lost a lot of the sweetness she had prior to her relationship with Lennon as she gets more comfortable  in the friendship aspect of being with him. Glimpses of the girl she was in Lennon's Jinx appear whenever she is feeling vulnerable in the sexual aspects of their relationship.

Rain is different from Jinx in character. She has more strength and confidence  in herself, and has a definite plan for the future. There is more maturity to her that somehow fits Lennon better, but she also has a more carefree spirit which allows Lennon to let loose.

This book isn't as emotionally stirring as the first book as it deals with less emotional topics. There is more lust to Lennon's relationship with Rain than there was with his relationship with Jinx and Rain allows Lennon to lean on her rather than Lennon being the one doing the supporting. I liked their relationship because of this, but can't help feeling that Rain may start to feel trapped if Lennon doesn't allow her to continue towards the goals she had prior to their relationship taking off.

I enjoyed reading Lennon's Rain and thought the author did a good job at showing the growth of the characters and their relationships. The reader can definitely identify why Jinx is no longer Lennon's girlfriend and why Rain seems better suited at this point in his life.
