Holy Shitballs Pepper! One quick question before I get into my thoughts – have you found yourself a good shrink? You have one disturbed mind and…. I fucking Love it!!!

So for those of you who haven’t started the Monsters in the Dark Series – get your hands on Book 1 – Tears of Tess before you even think of tackling Quintessentially Q. It is essential these are read in sequence otherwise you won’t truly understand the depths of depravity Ms Winters goes too. If you need help deciding if this is something you would like – read my review of Tears of Tess, I gave it 4 ½ hearts – and it was Pepper’s debut.

Ok Ok so onto Quintessentially Q.

This story picks up four days after the end of book 1. It starts with a bang… continues on that path – throws up some other explosions – knocks the wind out of you a few times, and finally, comes down with room to breathe!

Q is struggling with his emotions after Tess’ return. Particularly with regard to his base need to control, dominate, and borderline annihilate what is his. This story sees his struggle, the inner battle that he faces daily due to his feelings for Tess and the power she wields over him.

Tess is determined to own as much of Q as he owns of her, they each have to work through their demons in order to find the balance that allows them their fetishes/lifestyle without compromising their love for each other and who they need to be to the outside world.

What Quintessentially Q taught me was twofold – first… never make assumptions. I repeat – NEVER make assumptions that you know where an author’s mind will take a continuation of a story. Where I saw this heading at the conclusion of Tess was clearly fanciful in my mind – because Pepper Winters took it anywhere but where I assumed it would go. This story is nothing if not dark, heavy and intense, yet heart-warming and empathetic.

Secondly, Pepper explores some seriously kinky shit… and is extremely graphic in her detail, particularly with regard to torture and revenge… ummm… I loved it, which I think equals me being not quite as twisted as Pepper – but hell…. Maybe up there…

I cannot go into details about the storyline, because that would spoil it – and be bad… what I can comment on is the development of all the characters in this story, the secondary characters from Tears of Tess (book 1) are enhanced in Quintessentially Q. We learn so much more about them, their relationships with Q and the lengths they will go for him and why. At the same time, we understand Q better because of the vulnerabilities he shows to these characters throughout the story.

This book is not for the faint hearted. If you thought Tears of Tess was a little on the dark side – umm, think again because Quintessentially Q takes that, blindfolds you, turns the lights out and makes the sun stop shining with its dark element…

Quintessentially Q is one twisted mind trip that fucks with all perceptions of the human race. It is deep, dark, confronting and a journey that will have you holding your breath and your heart racing... Q and Tess take you on a ride to rock bottom and then send you soaring with your heart in your throat and tears in your eyes.

Well done Pepper Winters… 5 hearts for Quintessentially Q…. can’t wait for Twisted Together…
