Synopsis

*Book two in the Sugartown Series!* The last thing Holly Harris expected was to wind up nineteen, knocked-up, and all alone. When Coop left to pursue his dreams of becoming a rock god, he left a tiny piece of him behind. Holly wishes he hadn’t. Jackson wishes he hadn’t. Jackson Rowe tried filling the void his family left by drinking, screwing around, and leaving a string of heartbroken women in his wake. Moving back to Sugartown should have been easy, but he hadn’t counted on the fact his sometimes attraction to Holly would still be alive and kicking—and he sure as hell hadn’t counted on her being pregnant with another man’s baby. They drive one another crazy, and yet they can’t stay away. When old flames resurface, and even older wounds are torn open, can two people so similar make it work? Or will their stubbornness only drive them further apart? *Content Warning. Intended for a mature 18+ audience. Contains angst, a crap-tonne of profanity, short-tempered Australian wildlife, and some very pregnant sex.

Welcome To Sugartown (Sugartown #1)

Kota's Review

Welcome to Sugartown is an Aussie tale about Ana and Elijah.  Ana is 19 and born and bred in Sugartown. She runs her family pie shop, which was her mum’s dream.  She also is there for her younger brother (to the step monster) while she dreams of leaving to explore the world outside.

Unfortunately for Ana, the dream of escape is far from a reality – but at least life takes some interesting turns when Elijah rocks into town.

Welcome to Sugartown is a gritty story, with some unexpected turns.  Reading blind meant that I really had no idea what to expect, but holy moly – I didn’t expect this!  Carmen Jenner’s writing style is easy to read, her characters and storylines are engaging.  Her descriptions are graphic and she doesn’t hold any punches.  This story smacks you upside the head and then spits on your shoes…  That said – there is also hope, compassion and love.  Elijah is a bad boy who, with a bit of love, shows immense promise!  Oh did I mention the sex?  Yeah there is plenty of that…  it goes alright too!

Now for the bits that left me with questions…  As I commented, Ms Jenner writes scenes with plot twists that you don’t expect coming.  These scenes end and you are left with nothing but what next kind of questions. I hope some of these storylines would continue in the next book.

Now I am undecided about whether the lack of details about these plot twists is because the series is building to an absolutely amazing climax at some point in the future, or whether they were exciting plot twists, but that’s all they were and there is no further plan to explore them.

Wow – reading that back is like breaking code…  but it has to be that way – because to say anything would spoil the story.  I am going to give Ms Jenner the benefit of the doubt and presume that all of these unanswered twists will be resolved down the track…

With that thought – Welcome to Sugartown is an engaging, confronting, sad, hopeful, entertaining, sexy, and sometimes scary story with light at the end of the tunnel.  Read this if you don’t mind rude, crude, vulgar, fun, sassy and sexy!  I am rating Welcome to Sugartown 4 hearts.

Enjoy Your Stay (Sugartown #2)

Kota's Review

Enjoy your Stay is a continuation in the Sugartown series.  This book is Holly and Jackson’s story.  We met Holly in Welcome to Sugartown as Ana’s best friend, without a filter!  It is safe to say she does not find her filter in this story – Holly is a character – she swears like a trooper, calls things how she sees them, but is ever faithful to Ana.  Holly’s world gets turned upside down when she finds out she is up the duff!

Jackson is Ana’s older cousin, who moves to town after his mum passes away.  Jackson and Holly have history – and a love hate relationship.  Jackson is a man whore – and extremely arrogant about his sexual prowess.  We also see more of Ana and Elijah in this story.

This story picks up with the no holds barred approach to storytelling that Ms Jenner introduced us to in Book 1 – Holly and Jackson are combustible together, but this is definitely a rollercoaster ride to find their Happy Ever After.  There are moments of sweet in this story, and moments of Holy F…iretruck   What the hell just happened!  There is plenty of sex, swearing, laughing and tears, and frankly anyone who can use the phrase “blue-arsed fly” in a novel and makes it work is a bit of a star!

This story for me is similar to Welcome to Sugartown, in that elements of the story are stated, they are big and then they are left unresolved.  I am still hanging on to the theory that there will be a MASSIVE climax in this town…  its like Ms Jenner is leaving the breadcrumbs and we are just following the trail.

In this story – I was however a little disappointed – it seemed that a lot of effort was put into the language and characters idiosyncrasies at the expense of the storyline.  Not enough to prevent the story from being told and engaging you in the process…. These characters just started to grate on me a little by the end.

Enjoy your stay gets 3 ½ hearts for me!

About the Author

Carmen

Carmen Jenner is a thirty-something author, doctor, pilot and CIA agent.
She's also a compulsive, flagrant prevaricator who gets to make things up for a living.
While Sugartown may not technically exist, Carmen grew up in a small Australian town just like it, and just like her characters, she always longed for something more. They didn't have an Elijah Cade, though. If they did, you can be sure she would have never left.
