About Jess & Iva

Jess

I am a mum of two who works full time.  Always busy juggling family and work commitments means that I love to escape into a good book.  I have always loved reading and ever since I can remember I always had a book in my hand (now it’s my kindle).

I fondly remember lugging J.R.R Tolkein's The Hobbit around when i was about 8...Pretty sure i was unsuccessful in finishing it at that time, but such was my commitment to have an impressive array of books at hand.  As i grew older, I also had the benefit of a brother who loved to read more than I, and ended up working in a library!  Needless to say, we continue to debate the hard copy vs ebook issue very passionately!

My favourite genres are contemporary romance, erotica, psychological thrillers, paranormal and pretty much anything in between if it’s good!  Some of my favourite authors are Kristen Ashley, Georgia Cates, Patricia Cornwell, Janet Evanovich, James Patterson, Jackie Collins and Charlaine Harris.  As an Aussie girl, I am also a big supporter of Tara Moss and Wendy Harmer’s books too…

My blog will have a strong presence of contemporary romance and erotica titles, because that is where my interest is sitting right now - but in the future who knows where my tastes will take me.  I look forward to not being pigeon holed by one particular genre, and hope to be a bit of a go with the flow kinda girl.

I hope you find what i have to say worthwhile, but if not, at least interesting and entertaining.  I can't wait to share my reviews with you.  They will always be honest.  I am not a literary genius and my articulation could probably use some work - but i will always try to avoid spoilers, be constructive and provide some analysis about what i liked and didnt like about a particular story!

I am really looking forward to this journey with the amazing authors and bloggers that Facebook has connected me with, and hope you enjoy it too

Iva

Hi! My name is Iva Readit and I’m addicted to books.

My mother was probably the first person to point out that I had a problem. She strode purposely towards me one day and said;
“Iva! Get your nose out of that book!”

At the time I easily dismissed it, telling myself her comment came from a desire for me to act as her slave as I tided up my bedroom and folded my clothes. But over time, the comment became almost the only thing she ever said to me, or at least the only thing I ever heard, and not liking the truth shoved in my face I needed a solution to quiet her nagging.

I did consider duct tape, but thoughts of my reading being interrupted by being the only one able to answer the phone to avoid suspicion vetoed that idea. So I adapted a more subtle approach and began the all night reading sessions, and the book inside a book trick at school.

My book dependency became an issue once again when I married my husband. I could no longer read all night in bed without the light bothering someone else, plus it was a bit of a problem reading over his shoulder during the more…ahem..intimate moments in our relationship.

I found a way to hide my habit again by way of audio books. I could listen to books whilst doing housework and driving, it was almost perfect. But then I had kids and my book addiction crossed the placental wall and all three suffered story withdrawals which meant I had to consider their needs before my own book habit and read them the stories of their choosing.

A second option arrived soon after via an e-book reader, I could now read well into the night again without someone growling at me about the light, plus it had the extra advantage of being weighty enough that if he tried any funny stuff I could smack him upside the head with it and get back to reading.

My genre of choice at this time is paranormal / urban fantasy with my favourite suppliers being Ilona Andrews, Keri Arthur, Kim Harrison, Chloe Neill, Karen Chance, Carrie Vaughn, Patricia Briggs, Rachel Caine, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K Hamilton, Mira Grant, and Seanan Mcguire to name but a few. I also have had a very unhealthy craving for Sir Terry Pratchett for several years.

In order to support my habit, Kota has me working as her minion and my addiction has reached epic proportions. I see only one solution to my problem now and that is to turn book addiction into a world epidemic by sharing my thoughts on quality grade book fixes with everyone once I’ve readit.

Thanks for listening,
Iva Readit.
