I reviewed Hardwired (Hackers #1) and that review can be
read by clicking here – I gave it 4 hearts.
Many of the elements that were enjoyable from that book
remained in this one. I do enjoy Meredith Wild’s writing style, her mix of
steamy and suspense are well balanced.
In Hardpressed, Erica and Blake continue from the end of
Hardwired. Erica continued to maintain a
strength of character to stand up to Blake when it comes to her business, while
being totally incapable of saying no to him in the bedroom.
This story and has many twists and takes us on a journey of
heartbreak, blackmail, deceit, survival and at the end a sense of
integrity.
I found the plotlines intense and on the most part
believeable. This story also explores
the BDSM element a little more with Blake needing Erica’s submission, and Erica
understanding Blake’s desires.
There are new characters that have been introduced, some
play integral roles in the story, others almost seem to be convenient for story
tangents. The series does not end with
this book, as we find out Blake and Erica’s story continues. There is however no real cliffhanger – for those
of you who dislike them, don’t be deterred.
I was disappointed with the resolution of a significant plot
line. It makes me think that in fact it
is incomplete, because the outcome was just not believeable for me. While I am ok if the storyline carries over –
however, in this book the build was very detailed and intense and then the
climax was just… pfffft.
Rest assured Ms Wild’s tone and writing style are thoroughly
engaging, and this series has the makings of a good series. I am rating this 4 hearts on par with Book 1 –
only because in my perfect world Hardpressed is closer to a really good read,
than just a good read!
