Synopsis

Detective Mike Sterling walked away from his dream job telling himself it was to honor the promise he’d made his mother, while lying in a Chicago emergency room. A year later, he’s still fighting the demons that followed him back to his boyhood town.

Taryn Watts is an award-winning designer, going from project to project, living from a suitcase. Her plan for Renlend Kansas was the same as always. Go in, get the job done and get out, just the way she likes it. Growing up as a cop’s daughter, her every move was controlled. When she escaped to college she vowed to never fall in love with a cop –ever. Until she found herself sitting across from the ruggedly handsome stranger. Looking into Mike’s ice blue eyes they pulled her, called to her, but there was a haunting in them she knew too well.

Mike is drawn to Taryn, her passion for her work and her stunning beauty left him breathless, but what surprises him most is the peace he feels when he’s near her. Maybe it’s because Taryn is a temporary addition to his town and his secret is safe, or maybe it’s because she makes him feel safe. Mike knows he can’t keep up this charade and when Taryn moves to Renlend for an extended stay he can’t hide the truth any longer.

Can Taryn forget he’s a cop and give him her heart, or will his demons drive them apart?

Kota's Review

This is my introduction to Amy Gregory’s work, and I would say that I have become a fan.  Ms Gregory’s writing ability is fabulous, she tells a story with compassion, empathy and sass, her tone is engaging and has you hooked from the beginning, her style is easy to read but with enough depth for you to engage your imagination.

This is the first in the Finding Perfect Series, and the series title sums the story up perfectly.  This story about Mike and Taryn finding their perfect is it in a nut shell.

Mike is a detective who has returned to his hometown after some significant and life changing events in the big city.  Taryn is from out of town who has been commissioned to undertake some design work for a new business in Mikes town.  She also just happens to be a cop’s daughter and have her own baggage.

The instant attraction between the two of them is steamy, but there are some obstacles in their way to happiness.

The characters are well written and while Ms Gregory does not over do their backstory there is enough information to allude to their experiences.  Andrew, Scott and Molly among others are great supporting characters, and the introduction of Gabby, is perfect for the next Finding Perfect installment.

What gave this story substance was while there was instant attraction between Mike and Taryn, their relationship built gradually over a period of time, before they even truly acknowledged the attraction to each other.  Ms Gregory has created the perfect love story, dominated by real life obstacles and a natural progression rather than steamy sex and instalove.

That said – man it would have been nice to have some steamy sex before 70%...  but the story and the sexual tension keeps you sucked in nicely anyway!  Oh and just a little comment, but it niggled at me - for us non US folk - where is KS?  Please be kind to us international folk and try not to use abbreviations.  It was only in one place - but as a reader, surely i shouldn't have to google it to figure out where the story is set!

This is a nice, sweet read that is well written and extremely engaging.  Thank you Ms Gregory!

About the Author

When asked ‘when do you have time to write’, Amy Gregory simply laughs. The real answer is,
“in bits and pieces”. She and her husband live in Kansas City with their three fantastic kids that keep them running in three very different directions. Because she sits so much, she always carries a notebook with her at all times.
She has an off the wall, snarky, off the cuff sense of humor that often shocks even those who’ve known her for years. And she loves that her children have all been blessed that ability to make others laugh as well. At least she’s grateful most of the time! Her husband often teases her about how she “makes this stuff up” when he’s reading a piece of her work. … The answer—“it just comes to me when I’m typing”. Scary thought, huh!
