Synopsis

Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.
Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .

Kota's Review

Jay Crownover has done it again with her Marked Men series.  We first meet Rome in Rule’s story, and he strikes a chord as the super responsible, loyal to a fault older Archer brother.  When he gets his own story – he is that and much much more after he suffers the traumas of war.  Each book in the Marked Men Series, could be read alone, but to do this means you miss a lot of back story for each of the characters, as Ms Crownover interweaves these friends and brothers to perfection.

In Rome’s story, he is struggling with his retirement from the Army, secrets held by his family and among other things – where he belongs in this world after his return.
Cora is the ever entertaining hard-assed mother hen of her boys at Marked, the tattoo shop where Rule and Nash work.  Given that Rule and Rome are brothers – it was only a matter of time before Cora and Rome crossed paths..  and what an adventure they take you on.

Rome and Cora’s journey to Happily Ever After is fraught with drama, twists and turns and scares that make the heart stop…  To see these two work through their demons together, while the next chapter is woven into this story, is enough to give anyone hope that love can conquer all.

I first read Rule a while ago – so thought it best to reacquaint myself with him, and Rome before sinking my teeth into this story – this also meant refreshing my mind with Jet and his story too.  I thoroughly enjoyed Rule when I first read it, and the dynamics of this family and the friendship group present as very authentic – when things turn to shit – they turn to shit! But the strength of the friendships and the portrayal of the family needing time to restore what is damaged gives credibility to Ms Crownover.

With Jet’s story – I was a little disappointed.  Jet’s story was entertaining, but it didn’t grip me, and felt like it was more Ayden’s story than Jet’s.  To be honest I think I am just more partial to the Archer boys than the rest!

But with Rome, I was back in – I rode the highs and lows with the rest of them, the emotions this story evoked kept you on your toes and guessing how the ending would come about and I am ready for Nash’s story to unfold!

Congratulations Ms Crownover for creating a series that has enough hotness to keep you panting, enough drama to keep you guessing, enough dysfunction to keep you entertained, and enough goodness to make us all wish for that perfect for us connection.

4 1/2 hearts for Rome

About the Author

I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that. I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.
