Kota's Review
As the synopsis tells, Pieces for You is Sam’s story of recovery, survival, healing and love. What a freaking journey it is.
Pieces for you can be read as a standalone novel – however, if you can read Only for you first, it allows you to truly understand the dynamics of the relationships, the trauma and the recovery that Sam partakes in.
Having met Ev & Hunter in Only for You, with Sam and Griffin as secondary characters – it wasn’t long before Sam became a personality to be reckoned with, and integral to Ev’s journey. In Pieces for You, the roles are reversed while we see Sam’s personality locked away until she commences to heal.
Sam in true form is a riot, and her and Ev together make for some seriously laugh out loud moments. Sam as a survivor is inspirational, her strength and determination evoke such compassionate emotion that you cannot help but want her journey to be smoothe. Unfortunately, it is anything but.
Griffin, oh Griffin – such a stand up, decent guy in Only for You full of surprising talent becomes a hot sexy alpha in Pieces for you. His pledge to protect Sam is tested, and boy does he deliver…. Some would say he delivers sweet justice… Hell – he made it happen!
Genna Rulon for a new author weaves an amazing story with these characters – her plot is full of twists and turns with heartache by the bucket loads – in this series, the storyline is grave and one of the worst fears of any young lady and parent of children living away from home. The fact that Ms Rulon can portray these serious subjects with integrity and yet intersperse it with humour to ease the tension and severity makes this story a thoroughly enjoyable read. Lets not even touch on THAT plot twist that make you want to castrate some dude… (there are a few guys that deserve it, but I am talking about THAT guy…)
The characters are well developed and the storylines sound as they progress. It is clear to me that Ms Rulon’s tone and writing style complement her creative ideas. It has been a pleasure to read Ms Rulon’s early works – I suspect her future works will continue to get better.
If I had any issue of complaint, it would be the lack of false starts of a physical nature between Griff and Sam. I understand that creative license would be taken to keep the storyline going, but I think this issue maybe deserved to be fleshed out a little more. The other slight issue for me – and for those that read my reviews know it’s a pet peeve – are the typos.. few and far between, but evident enough to catch my eye, especially if they impact on a sentence, ie: was instead of wasn’t really can change the tone/impact of a situation.
It is because of these relatively minor issues that I am going with a 4 ½ heart rating. Congrats on another great story – Let’s hope Meg gets her turn next, clearly there is a story to tell there!
