Waiting for Jo by S.R Bradshaw

Synopsis

Josephine O’Shea’s life is not going as planned. James, her handsome litigator boyfriend broke up with her, she despises her job, and some anonymous creep has been following her and leaving her threatening notes.

She’s just about given up on James when he offers her a position at his firm. Taking this as a sign that he’s still interested in her, she accepts the job and becomes singularly focused on winning him back.

That is until a tall, muscular artist named Will enters the picture. Jo must decide whether she should ignore her growing connection with Will and keep pursuing James or discard her preconceived notions and let herself fall for a man that she believes isn't right for her, all while trying to figure out who is stalking her.

Iva's Review

Waiting for Jo by S.R. Bradshaw is a suspenseful romance with an intriguing storyline, and some sexual content.

For the past few months, Josephine or Jo as she prefers to be called, has been pining for her ex boyfriend James, and is therefore excited when he contacts her and asks her to meet up with him. Jo's hopeful fantasies are dashed when not long after arriving she ends up wearing a glass of wine that the attractive new waiter - Will - brings for her.

Several more encounters with Will ensue and a friendship and mutual attraction quickly develops. Jo is hesitant to explore her attraction to Will due to her lingering feelings for James. James keeps Jo hopeful of resuming their relationship by offering Jo a new job working alongside him and once she accepts, he continues to display some longing for what they once had. Add to that, the presence of an increasingly threatening stalker and you can see why Jo is finding it hard to work out who she wants to be with.

This is one of those stories that has so much potential but misses it's mark due to the delivery. I found I wasn't convinced of the emotional aspects in the story.  That said, I didn't struggle through the book and was quite happy reading it. I think the author did a very good job of juggling the many conflicts within the story, and that the ideas and plot points are what make this book easy to read.

The story is told from Jo's perspective. Jo is a paralegal, who lives alone with a little dog and enjoys a fine wine or two. I didn't feel like I got to know Jo any better than the other characters in the book, despite her narration. Most of her thoughts were told like dialogue and reactive to the situation she was in. I think this dampened any chance of feeling empathy for her in a more intimate capacity.

Will was great, he was compassionate as well as passionate but I felt his reaction to conflict and disappointment was immature in comparison to the proactive way he dealt with other situations within the book. This weakened him as a desirable lead, but also made him more authentic in a way.

James came over as an arsehole, which I believe the author intended, however I was so disconnected to Jo that it didn't concern me that he had her all in knots over the hope of getting back together.

The pace of the story is good and it is far from a poor read, but a lot of the emotional impact dissipates due to the writing style.

3 and 1/2 hearts for Waiting for Jo.

About the Author

I'm a new author, and I'm very excited about the release of my new book, WAITING FOR JO.

When I'm not writing, I'm working as attorney for a non profit organization.  In my spare time I like to read, snowboard, cook, take my dog for walks, and hang out with friends.

I'm a sucker for romance, and I enjoy any book where two people fall in love and live happily ever after.
