Synopsis
The first day of college gives every girl a chance to reinvent
herself.
I go and screw mine up by meeting the most gorgeous guy I've seen in five years
while talking to my cat.
But Andrew Crowner is far from judgmental. By the end of our interaction, he
has me smitten by his easy manner and kind smile. And from the way his eyes
linger on me before he leaves, I start to think that maybe I’ve caught his
attention, too.
I let myself believe that luck may finally be on my side. That is, until I
stumble on my roommate, and her overnight guest: Spencer Ashford.
Lean, tattooed, and sexy as sin, Spencer is exactly the type I need to avoid. I
would have no trouble with that... were it not for his swift and inexplicable
interest in me.
Suddenly, I go from a girl with next-to-no experience with boys to one caught
in the crosshairs of two completely different men.
Andrew's interest is wholesome and sweet. Spencer's is edgy and raw. My choice
should be easy. But there are always complications, and sometimes, matters of
the heart take the least expected turns.
Review
Scarlett Edwards introduces us to Paige, a young seemingly innocent and naïve girl moving in to start college life. Paige ends up rooming with Katy, who makes a great introduction.
The primary guys in this story are Andrew – safe, responsible and good looking, and Spencer – dangerous, lust worthy and man whore.
This story takes you on a journey of life, love and relationships for all of the primary characters. There are some definite highs and some definite lows that keep the pages turning.
On the whole I quite enjoyed this story. I like Scarlett’s tone and style, and I like that there were some very significant elements that were character building. I had a much greater affinity for Spencer and Andrew as characters than I did for Paige and Katy.
I found the story moved at a good pace, however, I really couldn’t fathom the time frame the events took place, and because of this the story became a touch unbelievable.
I am undecided if I actually like Paige or not – she was not really a whiny annoying character, but she had some very needy traits which contradicted the strong willed independent girl that the author portrayed. Personally, though for this story basically being Paige’s story – I have no idea who she is – what her experiences are and why she is like she is. There were some one liners to hint at her past, but they seemed superficially thrown in, or really just random. This frustrated me, as I struggled to understand Paige’s appeal to these other characters.
The familial storyline as it was told, could have been explored more to provide more depth to the exchanges, particularly between the boys. And as for Katy – well what a mess that girl is – the poor thing, I wish her well, but was expecting poor outcomes for her.
This story was enjoyable, it truly was – but it left me was so many gaps in information, and unanswered questions that I am frustrated. Yes, it is book 1, and there will be a book 2, but question whether this information was absent to leave material for book 2 or if they will remain unanswered as book 2 focuses on other issues…. Anyhoo I liked it enough to want to find out!
I was going to give Never Let Go 3 ½ hearts, but the story and its style seemed a bit more than just good – so I will give it 4 hearts (its borderline…. But I am feeling generous!)
About the Author
I’m Scarlett
Edwards. I wrote my first book as a college sophomore. After six
months of edits, it made its debut as Yours to Savor.
That was at the start of 2013. I’ve written more books since
then. You can find them all here.
It’s funny how quickly life changes. I used to think I’d need
a degree to get a “Real Job.” Then I wrote a few books, they got
somewhat popular, and now I’m living the life as a full-time romance author.
Thanks to all my readers for making my dream come true.
