Veiled was provided as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
In order to be thorough, Trust was also purchased so it could be reviewed.

Review
This is Megan’s story. She is supported by her best friend Jenny throughout her journey. Megan meets Mark and this is their love story.
Let me say that the idea of this story is there, but the execution did not work for me. I found this story to be lacking in content, character and consistency.
This story read a bit like a hard jigsaw puzzle, there were lots of pieces, yet none of them fit together easily. This started at the prologue for me, and sort of continued throughout the whole story.
The prologue seemed random, until towards the very end of the story. I knew the intention of the prologue, but the links to easily connect it to the unfolding events were questionable.
The relationship between Megan and Mark didn’t work – and I think that was more about the language, and the pace of the relationship rather than their dynamics. There was no sense of affection or familiarity between the two – the language was extremely formal and stilted throughout. The sexual chemistry was not there and Mark was borderline creepy in his behaviour – of course the rationale for his behaviour could all have been explained with some depth to his back story.
Unfortunately, Trust did not work for me, and I struggled through it wondering where it was going, how it was going to get there, and why?
I am giving Trust 2 ½ hearts. |

Review
To be honest, I picked up Veiled thinking it must be more of Megan and Mark’s story – and I was willing to give it a go, as I thought they may connect with me more, once they connected with each other.
Unfortunately, Veiled is Jenny’s story. I say unfortunately, because I wasn’t a huge fan of Jenny’s from Trust, I found her lacking in the friendship department and extremely egocentric. Jenny and Rich were featured in Trust. They are an engaged couple planning Jenny’s dream wedding. Rich seemed like the perfect man in Trust – but we didn’t really get to know him a whole lot.
Veiled is set around the month or so before Jenny’s wedding, and essentially counts down towards the big day. Jenny realises that Rich has become a little distant, putting it down to wedding nerves she goes about her business.
But something more is going on, and this story uncovers what it is – and how to overcome it!
Veiled, for me, had not improved on the elements of Trust that disappointed me. The formality of writing style remained. The inconsistency with information sharing continued and overall I thought there was so much going on in this story, and no where near enough time to invest in the issues. Further there was no overt compassion involved, which reinforced my dislike for some characters, particularly Jenny.
Again – L Chapman has the makings of intriguing stories, it’s the execution that does not work for me, I wish her all the best on this journey, and hopefully in the future I will be blown away by a complete story that is complex and engaging.

About the author
L. Chapman was born in and continues to live in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. She has spent most of her life helping at one time, a DJ for a special needs club. Blending her love of helping others and her love of children, L dreams to one day own and operate a childcare nursery that will help mainstream special needs children with others.
In the rare times that L. is not working to help others or maniacally writing, she enjoys making a mess of things while creating beautifully detailed greeting cards. She spends time relaxing with family, friends, and good books. L. loves to travel and has been to many places in the United Kingdom; her favorite places all involve the ocean. She hopes to one day share a kiss with her happily-ever-after in the romantic shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Should she ever get over her fear of flying, those kisses may be shared in the shadows of the Egyptian Pyramids.
Ever the fussy eater, L. has never once tasted peanut butter, and she despises coffee. If you should feel the need to bribe her, it is suggested that you bring chocolate, as that is one of her know weaknesses.
